Darren's Account
The rules
Rent is due on the 1st, in cash. It starts at €200 for the month and goes up €25 for every week the chores weren't all done. Nothing here is a judgment call — each one is a yes or a no, checked at a stated time.
A week runs Sunday to Saturday. It counts as done when both of these are true by the end of it:
▪ Kitchen — one missed night is fine. Two is not.
▪ Trash — no free miss. One night left overflowing is enough.
▪ Bath — the Monday check passed.
Any one of those three going wrong adds €25 to the month's rent. It is €25 for the week however many go wrong, and it stops at €300 — that's the most it can ever be.
Each night is marked the next morning — Sunday's on Monday. A week isn't counted at all until its Monday bathroom check is entered as pass or fail. Until then it sits as waiting and changes nothing.
Kitchen cleaned
Every night before bed. Checked the next morning.
What "cleaned" means 6 things
- Counters — wiped down with soap and water, then dried with a rag. No crumbs, nothing sticky, nothing left sitting on them.
- Sink — emptied out, food cleared from the drain, the basin itself wiped clean.
- Disposal — run until it is clear. No food left sitting in it overnight.
- Dishes — dishwasher run if it is full. Clean dishes dried off and put away where they go — not left in a stack on the counter or in the rack.
- Oven and stove — grease cleaned off with soap and water, the top wiped down.
- Brita filter — the five-gallon filter refilled to the top before bed.
Kitchen trash taken out
Judged on how full it is, not on doing it every single night.
What counts and what doesn't 5 things
- Three-quarters full or more — it goes out that night.
- Under three-quarters — it can wait for tomorrow. That is not a miss and nobody has to argue about it.
- Overflowing in the morning — that is the miss, and one is enough to cost the week its €25.
- Bag out — tied off and carried out to the bins. Not left by the door for the morning.
- New liner in — a fresh bag goes in before you walk away. An empty bin with no liner does not count as done.
Bathrooms cleaned weekly
Both bathrooms, checked Monday morning.
What "cleaned" means 9 things
- Toilet — cleaned inside the bowl, and the base and the outside wiped down.
- Toilet paper — a full roll on the holder and spares where they belong.
- Bathtub and shower — scrubbed out. No ring, no hair left in it.
- Sink and counter — sink scrubbed, and the counter beside it wiped down and cleared off.
- Under the sink — cleared out and wiped. Nothing piled up in there.
- Mirror — cleaned. No spots, no streaks.
- Floor — cleaned — hair and dust up, including the corners and behind the toilet.
- Trash — emptied, with a new liner in.
- Under the trash can — lift it and wipe underneath. No water, no damp, no mold sitting under there.
Room and extra chores — expected, not priced
Keeping the room clean is a house standard, not one of the three. Mom and Dad may also ask for other chores; doing them is part of being in this family. Nothing here changes the rent.
What "clean room" means 5 things
- Bed — made every morning.
- Clothes — off the floor — dirty ones in the hamper, clean ones put away.
- Floor — vacuumed once a week.
- Surfaces — dusted once a week.
- Everything else — put away where it goes. Nothing left in piles.
The other €200 is open for offers
The chores above account for €100 of the €300. The remaining €200 is negotiable: propose something you'll do instead, and if Mom and Dad think it genuinely moves you toward being independent, they'll take some or all of that €200 off for the month.
Put it in writing — what it is, how often, and how anyone can tell it happened. Same rule as the chores: it has to be checkable.
The weeks
One week at a time. Kitchen and trash get a line each, Sunday through Saturday, and the bathroom check sits under them. Tap a square: green for done, red for not done, tap again to clear it. Use Prev to go back and fix an earlier week — anything older than yesterday asks first.

- A week runs Sunday to Saturday. The kitchen gets one free miss, the trash gets none, and the Monday bathroom check has to pass. Any one of those going wrong costs the week its €25.
